Welcome back, kids! The PRIDE festivities may be behind us, but my hope is always that gay pride extends throughout the year and is not only reserved for the parades and celebrations around the country and world. (insert inspirational music here)
With that being said, anyone that has gone to a PRIDE event has definitely gotten an idea of the creativity within the gay community. Most people associate PRIDE fashion with being as naked as one can be while getting away with it. For many, this is the goal, and that’s okay. I have no problems with nudity and if most people would lighten up they’d realize that they don’t have to take things so seriously. Let the kids be naked with rainbow strips strategically placed! (The group you see below is not that naked, but there are those uptight stick-in-the-mud types that would have problems with their display. Shit, if my body was still like this I’d be showing more of it REGULARLY!) I will say this about the guys below…. I would have taken it to another level with better shoes….just saying!
it’s a time to be proud of who you are, what you are, the skin that you’re in and what you choose to wear is a direct reflection of how you’re feeling at the moment. I always say “Look How You Want To Feel” and when you’re proud to be YOU, you want to show everyone! (and when you’re marching in the parade and see a spectator you want to flirt with, then you show it… sometimes you show it like the guy below)
**sidebar** Notice the sign in the background… “Drill Ass Not Gas” LOL!!! This leads me to my next mentions, the marchers with a message. PRIDE is not only a time for rainbows and drinking. Lots of messages are on display and the people are serious. Signs are all around and it’s impossible to read each one, but if one is able to flip up their beer goggles and lust sunglasses, they’ll notice an enormous amount of signage that’s sure to make them think. Check these out:
The 3 photos above (the anti infant circumcision group and ‘kiss me if you’re queer’) and the following 8 were provided by a very dear friend and amazing photographer, ATTILA SOHAR. When I knew that I’d be doing a piece on PRIDE fashions he was the first person I went to. He resides along the parade route and is always in the thick of things during PRIDE. Enjoy these images and bask in the creativity of the subjects. (I especially like the kid in the mask and the pair in stripes!)
(**Thank you ATTILA! I, along with my readers, greatly appreciate your contributions! And, on a side note, I value your friendship and presence in my life!**)
….and then (below) there are these 2 beauties, Desi Santiago and Jenny Shimizu… forever love them!!!!
There are those that use PRIDE events to showcase their talents and bring out the big guns in terms of their fashions, and these children DO NOT PLAY!
and speaking of big guns….
And I’ve saved my favorites for the end….. Love proud pets!
and I’m in love with the gay Storm Trooper !!! This was definitely my favorite look!
So there you have it kids! My choices from the PRIDE celebrations in Manhattan! I was unable to attend this year, but I’m still getting my life from all the images and stories being shared with me! Whether you like to go all out, or let it all hang out, it’s your time to let your freak flag fly and do what makes you feel happy and demonstrates your PRIDE. If you like it, do it! If you feel it, show it! If someone disagrees, smile, nod and dismiss them! It’s all about you!
I encourage you all to keep the PRIDE! We don’t need to reserve the month of June to be proud, and we definitely don’t need a parade and drunken street shenanigans to be fashionable! (We can be drunk and fashionable ANYTIME! hehehe) Remember, “Look How You Want To FEEL!”
Happy Pride everyone! Gay and others….
Keep it FOCUSED!
See you next time
