The Grand Ole Party (GOP) is having a gay ole time in Tampa rolling forward with the Republican National Convention now that they don’t have to worry about a hurricane threat. (Who cares about the rest of the gulf coast region, they didn’t have a party planned?#@!)
While residents in areas like New Orleans and southern Mississippi scrape together money to safe guard their homes and get the hell out of dodge, the rich Republicans are busy celebrating their bigotry.
One of their quickest moves was to approve a campaign platform that hopes to set the gay rights movement back a several steps.
The Obama campaign quickly fired off a letter to LGBT voters condemning the Romney platform.
Barack Obama’s LGBT Vote Director, Jamie Citiron, wrote:
“The intolerant document calls for a constitutional amendment to ban same-sex marriage. It condemns President Obama for not defending the Defense of Marriage Act. The platform fails to recognize civil unions for gay couples, and it rejects the “use of the military as a platform for social experimentation” — a veiled dig at the repeal of “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell.
One Tuesday, Republicans officially confirmed Mitt Romney as their nominee to take on Barack Obama in November. The winner of that election becomes the 45th President of the United States. Romney’s wife, Ann, and New Jersey Governor Chris Christie also delivered speeches at the RNC that same night. Meanwhile, Hurricane Isaac hit New Orleans. Although downgraded to a Category 1 hurricane, it was expected to bring heavy rains to the gulf coast. Downgraded or not, it doesn’t repay all those who spent so much time and money hoping Isaac didn’t do what his sister Katrina did seven years ago.
