In a mistake that certainly comments on the American zeitgiest, NBC’s “The Today Show” aired an interview with Kris Jenner instead of observing the traditional 9/11 Moment of Silence. Other major networks chose coverage of 9/11 services and observed the 8:46 Moment of Silence for when the North Tower of the World Trade Center was struck, but during this time on NBC, Savannah Guthrie was questioning Kris Jenner.. about her breast enhancement surgery.
Twitter immediately went into a firestorm, with some saying, “the terrorists just won” and many using the hashtag “#NBCFail”. In New York, the NBC affiliate preempted “The Today Show” and ran 9/11 coverage instead.
We wonder what kind of heat the producer of this segment is under. Perhaps the best moment of the entire clip comes at the end when Guthrie ironically asks, “are there any moments when you think, ‘gosh I wish we hadn’t recorded that?’” This is probably one of them:
