New Reviews:
NiteLifeExchange.com
BroadwayShowBiz.com Ron Forman: WKRB 90.3FM Radio Host –
Craig Pomranz’ new show The Break-Up Show: Breaking Up is the Thing To Do, at the Metropolitan Room, like all of Craig’s show is an evening of Great Songs, Great Singing and lots of very funny patter. Craig’s performances invariably have a theme that ties the songs together. The very well thought out selection of songs, treat the often sad and sometimes hilarious process of either breaking up or recovering from the breakup of a relationship.

Craig Pomranz sings in many voices, all quite good. He has a remarkable vocal range that ranges from falsetto to a very robust baritone. He uses all of his voices appropriately in this new show. The show opens with These Foolish Things followed by a beautifully slow tempo performance of Neil Sedaka’s Breaking Up is Hard to Do. Pomranz shows off his falsetto voice in My Eyes Adored You and his gift for writing very funny lyrics with his updated version of an obscure Cole Porter song Nobody’s Chasing Me. The medley of I Guess I’ll Hang my Tears Out to Dry and It Never Entered My Mind is quite moving. The show ends on an optimistic note with the Gershwin’s Love Walked In. His encore number, Peggy Lee’s I Love Being Here With You, very well describes Craig Pomranz’ demeanor on stage.

Craig Pomranz is a performer that is always a must see, for me, whenever he appears in New York. Craig will have one more appearance at the Metropolitan Room 34 West 22nd Street on Wednesday evening March 14 at 9:30 PM, before taking this show to California.

“I haven’t seen spontaneous standing ovations like this at the Metropolitan Room except for Julie Wilson and Marilyn Maye.” Backstage

“exceptional voice…powerful performance…came deep from his soul…mesmerizing the audience.”Music Connection Magazine

“Yes, Michael Buble sings nice, but he’s not the only one holding up the crooner tradition theses days. Here’s a fellow chirping love songs for the season in a makes-you-want-to-hold-hands-with-whoever-is-next-to-you-even-if-you-don’t-know-him-or-her-style. And guess what? He’s funny, too…”

MAC Awards 2012 “Best Male Vocalist” Craig Pomranz, one of the dreamiest voices in the music industry returns to Los Angeles!

The Break-Up Show:

Breaking up is the thing to do…

90.3FM

“Tenor of the Times…” GQ Magazine

“The BEST male singer…his four octave voice is
alternately
affecting, powerful and nuanced; it is
one of the finest instruments in the city”
NY Post

“One of New York’s most critically-acclaimed saloon
singers”

“a remarkable vocal range that ranges from falsetto to a
very robust
baritone…a performer that is always a must
see.”
BroadwayShowBiz.com: Ron Forman: WKRB

New York Magazine

Craig Pomranz, reminiscent of Johnny Mathis, Chet Baker and

Little Jimmy Scott, one of the dreamiest voices in the music industry returns to Los Angeles with his All-New show “The Break-Up Show: Breaking up is the thing to do…” Craig will take you on a ride along the melodious and rocky road away from love with laughs and the promise of new romance as a part of the journey! From Neil Sedaka to Cole Porter, from serious to deliriously silly, and from start to finish, this is a party you won’t want to miss. As Irving Berlin would ask, “What’ll I do?” Leo Robin and Lewis Gensler might say “Love is just around the corner…” So spend the night with Craig in a show that guarantees both smiles and sighs.

WKRB Radio Host Ron Forman says “a performer that is always a MUST-SEE for me whenever he appears…” Craig has distinguished himself consistently by performing music from the Great American Songbook that never wears out its welcome, along with contemporary pop and unusual tidbits he has collected from songwriters through the years. It’s a one-stop entertainment buffet, graced most importantly with Craig’s impeccable and artful appreciation of both lyrics and melody – with his own unique talent and compelling vocal style, in the timeless tradition of Chet Baker, Sammy Davis Jr. and Frank Sinatra.

Pomranz’s appearances have proven to be some of the most entertaining evenings of live performance. Stephen Bocchino is Craig’s formidable musical director, accompanist and partner in verbal high-jinks. Pomranz crafts shows that feel freshly minted each night, like a nightclub act at the Copa from the golden days.

In addition to his solo performances, he has shared the stage with Dame Cleo Laine, Barbara Cook, Betty Buckley, Ann Hampton Callaway, Karen Akers and Cissy Houston. Peter Allen, a great fan, supplied him with many songs to sing, one of which, “I Never Thought I’d Break,” is covered on his debut CD My Heart Don’t Skip A Beat. His latest CD More Than A Seasonal Thing has garnered raves such as “an aching and disarming earnestness that demands attention, nakedly emotional and artifice-free” Rob Lester Talkin’ Broadway Pomranz headlines at the most celebrated nightspots domestically and internationally, at NY’s Metropolitan Room, London’s famous Pizza on the Park and The Pheasantry, Los Angeles Gardenia Restaurant Lounge and Chicago’s Davenports. His previous engagements have garnered universal critical praise. GQ Magazine called him “The Tenor of the Times!”  The Music Connection had this to say: “exceptional voice…powerful performance…came deep from his soul, mesmerizing everyone in the audience…”

What the critics are saying…

“Yes, Michael Buble sings nice, but he’s not the only one holding up the crooner tradition theses
days. Here’s a fellow chirping love songs for the season in a makes-you-want-to-hold-hands-with-
whoever-is-next-to-you-even-if-you-don’t-know-him-or-her-style.
And guess what? He’s funny, too…” The Village Voice

“Craig Pomranz makes an audience sigh at the sheer beauty with which he sings.” Cabaret Scenes

“I haven’t seen spontaneous standing ovations like this at the Metropolitan Room except for Julie
Wilson and Marilyn Maye.” Backstage

“an excellent singer with a clear rangy soft tenor voice that can be totally captivating.”

GORGEOUS: The New Tortilla Republic Emerges From What Was Once Fat Fish

Posted by on Monday, 2 April, 2012

Tortilla Republic in Gay West Hollywood, Los Angeles

It’s amazing to watch the wonderful transformation of Gay West Hollywood. It keeps getting better and better!

The Brand New Kitchen 24  and The Lounge at SUR have just opened, and now Tortilla Republic is open!  Great new things come in THREEs!

Mina Azami, owner of Taste Restaurant on Melrose along with Morten Kaag and John Milton Palm Halter, have a created a gorgeous new place for us to hang out.

Check out the gorgeous photos taken by Elizabeth Daniels.

This is Tortilla Republic’s 2nd location.  The first is located in Kauai, Hawaii. The location used to be Fat Fish, which always had a very gay crowd enjoying cocktails and dinner on their way to the bars and clubs in Gay West Hollywood.  The old location was completely gutted and remodeled bringing the bar from the back to the front and maintaining the large outdoor dining space.

Go check it out and let us know what you think in the comments below.

1. Never talk to strangers.

3. Above all else, do not trust a celebrity over the age over 25 who’s core demograhic is teenage girls.

There’s absolutely no reason grown ass men should be dancing together in matching outfits.
